Plextor M5S, High Performance Thanks to Marvell Controller
Plextor M5S is SSD products from Plextor that armed with Marvell 88SS9174 controller. With those controller, this SSD has high performance. Beside Marvell controller which is used, this SSD also equipped with DRAM Cache. With DRAM cache, processing of system not done on the primary storage instead on DRAM cache so that booting and data transfer process becomes faster. Plextor M5S available in three capacities, 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB.
When testing SSD Plextor M5S capacity of 256 GB that has 512 MB DRAM cache using ATTO software, this SSD show number 365.8 MB/s for read speed, while 319.1 MB/s for write speed. When tested using PCMark, scores that obtained was 4730. Meanwhile, when tested using 1 GB File Copy Test, spend 21 seconds to move those files from SSD to PC. In contrast, from PC to SSD takes time 33 seconds.
