MSI Z77A-GD80, Comes with Thunderbolt Feature
Thunderbolt be the main feature that present in MSI Z77A-GD80 motherboard. For those of you that not yet familiar with Thunderbolt, Thunderbolt is currently the fastest I/O port that developed by Apple and Intel. Thunderbolt can transfer data up to 10 Gb/s or two times faster than USB 3.0 interface. In addition, Thunderbolt was developed by using Display Port 1.2 interface so its function are double, ie as display port and also as Thunderbolt connector.
This time Thunderbolt feature presented by MSI in one of its flagship motherboard, namely MSI Z77A-GD80. With this Thunderbolt feature, MSI became the first motherboard manufacturer that presenting Thunderbolt on motherboard.
Not much differences seen between MSI Z77A-GD65 with MSI Z77A-GD80. Design of traditional blue and black colors still adorn almost every part of the board. Heatsink design also not much different and barely distinguishable. Heatsink ceramic materials that used on the part of PWM and chipset makes this board can operate with cooler temperatures than the use of aluminum heatsink.
Three PCIe 3.0 slot that provided also supports the use of multi-graphics with SLI or CrossFireX configuration. For you that want to use onboard graphics from Intel, recommend to use the latest processor Intel Ivy Bridge because of its graphics performance that far better compared to Intel Sandy Bridge. To support that MSI Z77A-GD80 providing HDMI port, D-Sub and Display Port 2.0 which also functions as Thunderbolt port.
Unfortunately, when testing can’t test the ability from those Thunderbolt feature because of the devices limitations that using Thunderbolt connection.
