Blackberry Dakota 9900, Dilemma in Camera
BlackBerry 9900 aka Dakota, became the thinnest RIM product until now. The combination of touch screen and qwerty keyboard, making the operation of smartphone so easily. RIM also gave upgraded features here and there, so that Dakota not only fascinate from outside.
Unfortunately there is some parts forgotten or intentionally forgotten. Which ultimately making this smartphone discussed many its users. One of these camera, then natural if as the users complain when finding the negative side of this narsis feature. Although must be realized that there are no products that perfect, there are always advantages and disadvantages.
Well, here’s a description of BiackBerry Dakota as a smartphone with BlackBerry OS7 operating system.
Dakota thinness that only 1 cm, becomes an interesting chat when discussing the design of RIM products. Indeed Dakota that the most thin. If you look at the previous generation of Bold, thick and large. While Dakota more cool. Plus combination of qwerty keyboard and touch screen, the phone looks genius as the business phone.
This BlackBerry 9900 has four rounded corners with a blend of black-silver color. Wider, but still can be handheld. Its qwerty buttons soft and attractive because framed by silver list, such as on Bellagio. Optical trackpad when trying responsive, prevent damage, don’t press too hard when operating it.
Meanwhile its plastic casing appear with the rear side of shaggy matte textured materials and slippery patterned. On the side, its body surrounded by an elegant silver list. At the top there is screen lock button. On the port, available microUSB port and 3.5 mm audio jack in the left edge of phone.
Widened form balanced with large screen, 2.8 inches. Its capacitive screen type has depth of 16 million colors, resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. Excellent screen response when receiving touch. Purity, clarity of text in the sunlight still visible. Increasing display performance with the presence of proximity sensor and multi touch technology.
Dakota interface, looked familiar to users of BlackBerry OS6. Home screen complete with all icons of needs support. On the menu page there are 5 categories, All Favorites, Media, Downloads, and Frequent. Its icon look fresher than before. Anyway, didn’t find virtual keypad on Dakota.
As smartphone that carries new operating system, of course there are things to be proud of, such as in the application. Smooth performance of this application was supported with processor speed of 1.2 GHz.
Indeed this switchover OS doesn’t bring many changes, but there are things that will facilitate the performance of its users. Through Dakota, there is search based on voice. Its way just press the microphone icon, mention the desired content.
Then there is BlackBerry Protect application, its task to protect our files from the hands of ignorant that want to take advantage from data that we has. When is run, we are faced with several menus that can be activated. For example, View Current Location, its function see where the missing device.
This tracker using GPS. Loud menu, to making our BlackBerry “scream” loudly, Display Menu, functioning sends message to the BlackBerry device, in order to be read by the person who found or the thieves.
Then there is Lock menu, all data will be locked and can only be used with the password that we use and the last is Wipe menu, all data will be permanently deleted, either photos, documents, contacts and so forth.
Social Feeds that exist in Dakota makes all social networking apps, chatting including BBM, integrated in one feature. Your friend status updates from various social networks will appear. The fun we also can see the news from various news sites which we want. News updates will go into the list of RSS.
Wireless standard connection of course there is WiFi, as supporting a free internet along the hotspot lines. RIM promises 3.5 connection with speed of download time reaching 14.4 Mbps, while its upload reaches 5.76 Mbps.
Its browser work more quickly and have been fully supported for HTML 5 element. When browsing, we can use many functions like multitouch zooming, text selection, text automatically cut off when in-zoom, scrolling and the cursor mouse for easy navigation. With the existence of multi tab, we can open many pages at once. Unfortunately for the browser doesn’t yet support flash. Data transfer can also use Bluetooth and microUSB data cable. Dakota also has been equipped NFC and BlackBerry Tag.
Very unfortunate Dakota camera lens not accompanied by autofocus. So not maximal for the close-up photos. Results be opaque, since not finding the right focus point. Though the overall results of 5 MP camera already has very good quality. Moreover already support camera flash, photographing in a dark room or low light can be helped.
The results of a good photo one of the factors is camera settings facility that are adequate. There’s face detection mode, night mode, and image stabilizer. Geo-tagging feature that existing also easy to know the location of photo shoot which recently taken. This will easier for us if at any time want return again to those placet, or share the information to other friends.
Didn’t find settings for exposure, white balance and ISO. For its video, supports HD video recording at resolutions of 1280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps. Flash light can be lit continuously during the recording images. Its video recording quality good, went smoothly, detail quite sharp, color and contrast accurate, also noise still managed well.
This time there is quick search feature for songs tracks and automatically will soon classify songs. To save usage, song that playing can be shown in the background, while we doing other activities on the phone.
Unfortunately, in main screen there was no hint what song is playing. Regarding its voice, Dakota not disappointing. Speaker of its own able to present clear sound and steady. On the loud and medium or low volume still sounded stable.
Capacity of 1230 mAh deemed less by most of its use. If already like this, we must smart to manage the battery. Many different search can be done to reduce battery consumption, such as turning off the application after use it, dim the screen, and various other things (check on BlackBerry official sites how to save battery life).
From the test, feel the heat of the battery while running a variety of activities at once. For about durability of according the usage, Dakota wasn’t strong until one day through various activities.
